I have noticed that just about every Accountant will tell you that they work proactively with their clients, but what does that actually mean?
I think most people think of proactivity as the opposite of being simply reactive. It means taking initiative and attempting to solve problems before they arise. The actual definition is “It means taking control and making things happen rather than just adjusting to a situation or waiting for something to happen”. Does that sound like your Accountant?
Not many Accountants fulfil this claim. At Robinson and Co, we believe that we do and here’s why:
- We are interested in what is important to you in your life
Notice we are not just referring to your business here but your life as a whole. Some of us live to work and others works to live but what is true amongst almost all of us is that we have life goals that we are working hard to achieve and making money is a means to that end.
It might be buying the dream house, starting a family, travelling or simply having more free time and resources to do more of what you want.
- We help you understand what you need to achieve in your business to achieve your goals?
We aim to get to know what your ultimate motivations are so that we can align our advice and support accordingly. By helping you understand what you need to do with your business to achieve your goals we can then look at helping you optimise how your business performs. We will help you set measurable business targets and the KPI’s that will help you achieve them. We will do all we can to help you achieve your goals as soon as possible.
- We figure out how can we best help you stay on track
This is where our proactivity really separates us from many other accountants. Not only do we help you with your business plan but also with forecasting. Within our forecasts we help you navigate the road ahead with one eye on what you want to achieve and the other on what obstacles might block your path.
How helpful would it be if your accountant got in touch to warn you that you are behind on your revenue targets and had ideas about how you could get back on track?
What would it mean to you if your accountant could not only help you plan for when your corporation tax is due but give you an estimate of how much it might be up to 12 months in advance?
What if your accountant could tell you what your business needs to be earning before you can hire another member of staff and when that is likely to be?
These are all things we regularly do for our clients and are of vital importance to ensure that they do not get caught out by any unexpected bumps in the road or make poorly informed decisions about their business.
This is what proactivity looks like and this is why working with a proactive accountant will not only give you the edge over your competitors but give you every chance of achieving both your business and life goals.
